Safeguarding

The Edith Borthwick School ensures that safeguarding procedures are in place so that every child who comes to the school is safe and protected. Our school makes sure the pupils feel secure, are encouraged to talk and are listened to. We provide all our children with the necessary support to keep them safe and build their self-esteem and self-confidence.

We strive to provide activities and opportunities in the curriculum that will equip our children with the skills they need to stay safe. At all times we work to establish effective working relationships with parents, carers, and colleagues from other agencies such as Health or Social Care (Children and Families within the Children and Learning Department).

The School provides a happy, secure environment in which mutual concern and respect are encouraged. Everything the pupils do must
be safe, sensible and considerate towards other people. The school as high expectations regarding pupil behaviour and conduct and teaches this discretely through the curriculum and one to one basis where required.

Within the school our Dedicated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is Lisa Solvey (Deputy Headteacher) and our Deputy Safeguarding Leads are Maggie Loveday (Headteacher), Lucy Crisp (Deputy Headteacher), Dan Horscroft (Assistant Headteacher), Katie Pilgrim (Assistant Headteacher) and Tracy Hanlon (Assistant Headteacher). Concerns about the safety of a child should be reported directly to the above named members of staff. For more information, please see the policy attached below.

They can be contacted via email on safeguarding@edithborthwick.essex.sch.uk

Please also feel free to contact the school on 01376 529300 - please say it is a safeguarding issue you will be directed through to one of the safeguarding leads ASAP.

Our designated Safeguarding governor is Kate Stannard.

Any concerns regarding female genital mutilation (FGM) should be reported first to the local police and then to the DSL.
